Bilirubin
Bilirubin is a yellow compound made when your body breaks down old red blood cells. It’s processed by the liver, so it’s a key marker for liver function, detox capacity, and oxidative stress. Mildly elevated levels can be harmless (especially in Gilbert’s Syndrome), but significant increases may reflect liver congestion, bile flow issues, or detox stress. It’s also a powerful endogenous antioxidant, so optimal levels may offer protective benefits
