PSA is a protein made by the prostate gland. While often used to screen for prostate cancer, elevated levels can also come from inflammation, benign enlargement (BPH), or recent ejaculation or exercise. It’s not a perfect test on its own, but it’s useful as a trend marker—especially if you're over 40 or on testosterone therapy. Sudden spikes or consistently high values should be evaluated further.
