TSH is the brain’s signal to your thyroid—telling it how hard to work. Higher TSH means your brain is yelling at the thyroid to produce more hormone (often due to sluggish output), while low TSH means your thyroid is either working well or being over-stimulated. TSH is a sensitive marker of thyroid health, but it’s not the full story without Free T4 and Free T3. Even if it’s “normal,” being above 2.5 can reflect early signs of low thyroid function—especially if energy, mood, or metabolism feel off.
