CK-BB is the brain and smooth muscle form of creatine kinase, mostly found in the nervous system, gut, and reproductive tissues. It’s typically low in the blood, so elevated levels may signal neurological stress, brain injury, or gut barrier dysfunction. It’s a rare marker to see elevated in healthy individuals, but when it does show up, it points toward systemic stress involving the brain or internal organs—not muscles.
