AST

AST (Aspartate Aminotransferase) is an enzyme found in your liver, heart, and muscles. It’s released into the blood when cells in these tissues are stressed or damaged. While often used to assess liver health, elevated AST can also reflect muscle strain, overtraining, or even cardiovascular stress. Best interpreted alongside ALT to differentiate between liver and muscle-related causes. Useful for tracking inflammation, recovery, and overall tissue stress.
