Lipase

Lipase is an enzyme made mainly by your pancreas. Its job is to help your body break down fats in the food you eat. Think of it as a “fat cutter” — it turns big fat molecules into smaller pieces so your body can absorb and use them. Doctors usually check your lipase levels to see if your pancreas is inflamed or irritated. This condition is called pancreatitis. A high lipase level can be a sign something's wrong with the pancreas.
